NTU in the Climate Action sector

At NTU, we recognise that climate change is no longer a distant threat but an urgent global challenge that demands immediate action. As climate change continues to threaten food security, water resources, and human health, and drive significant economic costs, it is vital to take decisive action to mitigate its impacts. We are committed to addressing its effects through innovative technologies, cutting-edge research, and sustainable practices. Our efforts focus on meeting human needs without compromising the health of ecosystems, advocating for long-term environmental stability, and creating a more resilient future for all. By developing practical solutions that safeguard human communities from the effects of climate change—such as rising sea levels and extreme weather events—while promoting the preservation and restoration of ecosystems, NTU plays a vital role in protecting livelihoods and ensuring society can thrive amidst environmental changes. 

Aligned with global initiatives such as the European Union’s Green Deal, the Green Growth initiative, and more recently, the Global Gateway, NTU focuses on reducing greenhouse gas emissions, promoting sustainable infrastructure, and protecting biodiversity. By supporting the Global Gateway in its efforts to strengthen partnerships, NTU contributes to fostering green and resilient infrastructure that aligns with the Paris Agreement's goals and advances the global transition to a low-carbon economy. 

NTU promotes sustainable solutions in every project, focusing on critical areas such as policy development, technical standards, and capacity building. Our services include creating policies and strategies for climate change mitigation and adaptation, such as early warning systems for natural disasters, ecosystem restoration projects, and urban climate resilience planning. We are dedicated to engaging stakeholders, raising public awareness, and equipping institutions, utilities, and local communities with the knowledge and resources they need to build resilience against climate risks. Our mitigation efforts focus on cutting emissions, while our resilience strategies help vulnerable communities and ecosystems adapt. We provide innovative solutions, particularly in rapidly urbanizing areas, such as climate-proofing infrastructure. In addition to our core efforts, NTU supports sustainable land use and advances the transition to a circular economy.  

NTU recognises that tackling the complexities of climate change requires innovative and scientifically proven approaches. We have been involved in initiatives such as Climate-KIC, which focuses on developing solutions for climate resilience, sustainable land use, and urban transitions. Additionally, we have participated in research and innovation funding programmes like Horizon 2020 and are currently involved in Horizon Europe. NTU’s research aligns with the Green Deal’s goal of a zero-carbon, circular economy by developing practical solutions to reduce carbon emissions and optimize resource use.
