SDG 13: Climate Action

SDG 13: Climate Action

Goal 13: Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts

Climate change is the defining challenge of our time and a profound threat to global civilisation. Its effects are already evident with climate records surpassed in 2023, they might end up being catastrophic without immediate action. The path to limit global temperature rise to 1.5°C and prevent the most severe impacts of climate change requires urgent action. There is no time for delays, uncertainty, or half-hearted efforts from the global community. Immediate, significant cuts in greenhouse gas emissions are necessary within this decade, with a goal of reaching net zero by 2050. By prioritising education, innovation, and climate commitments, we can still implement the necessary changes to safeguard our planet.

SDG 13 calls for activities and strategies limiting global warming, reducing CO2 emissions, and adapting the world to the climate crisis.

SDG's targets

Target 13.1: Strengthen resilience and adaptive capacity to climate-related hazards and natural disasters in all countries.

Target 13.2: Integrate climate change measures into national policies, strategies and planning.

Target 13.3: Improve education, awareness-raising and human and institutional capacity on climate change mitigation, adaptation, impact reduction and early warning.

Target 13.a: Implement the commitment undertaken by developed-country parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change to a goal of mobilizing jointly $100 billion annually by 2020 from all sources to address the needs of developing countries in the context of meaningful mitigation actions and transparency on implementation and fully operationalize the Green Climate Fund through its capitalization as soon as possible.

Target 13.b: Promote mechanisms for raising capacity for effective climate change-related planning and management in least developed countries and small island developing States, including focusing on women, youth and local and marginalized communities.
