This assignment will support the preparation of the expansion of the existing Qorlortorsuaq Hydropower Plant in South Greenland, contributing to Greenland's renewable energy targets, strengthening energy security, and supporting the country's green energy transition. The project is implemented in close cooperation with the Government of Greenland (Naalakkersuisut), Nukissiorfiit, and the European Commission Office in Greenland.

The assignment will focus on:

• Reviewing previous investigations and conducting additional field and technical studies for the proposed expansion of the hydropower scheme

• Assessing alternative dam and tunnel designs, including water transfer, sediment management, and flood protection solutions

• Updating hydrological models to address glacial melt, sediment transport, and long-term water availability

• Preparing a revised concept design, including technical drawings, specifications, and cost estimates for future implementation

• Undertaking environmental and social impact assessments and identifying risk mitigation measures

• Providing a robust decision-making basis for future tendering and construction of the expansion works

The expansion is expected to significantly increase available water resources and hydropower generation capacity, supporting the further replacement of fossil fuels with renewable electricity for communities, businesses, and future economic development in South Greenland.

This assignment further strengthens NTU International's experience in hydropower development, renewable energy infrastructure, climate-resilient engineering, and the delivery of complex energy projects in Greenland and Arctic environments.
