NTU Awarded a New Project.
NTU Awarded a New Project: “Strategic Environmental Assessment - Development of the Lobito Economic Corridor in Zambia”.
As part of the EU Global Gateway strategy promoting sustainable corridor development in Africa, NTU International A/S is proud to announce a new 11-month assignment with a budget of €720,000. The assignment will support the Government of Zambia, the European Union, and development partners in identifying and addressing the environmental, climate, social, and economic risks and opportunities associated with the development of the Lobito Economic Corridor in Zambia. The project aims to strengthen climate-resilient and environmentally sustainable regional planning by integrating environmental considerations into development processes, supporting informed decision-making, enhancing stakeholder participation, and reinforcing institutional capacities for environmental governance and strategic land-use management.
This initiative further strengthens NTU’s growing portfolio of strategic corridor development assignments in Africa, alongside our ongoing involvement in the Northern Corridor project.
Specific Objectives:
• Assess the sustainability of key hydrological systems, biodiversity, natural resources, and socio-economic conditions affected by the development of the Lobito Economic Corridor under climate change and land use change scenarios.
• Evaluate the corridor’s spatial footprint, competing land use dynamics, and environmental implications to support sustainable and climate-resilient development planning.
• Analyse the capacity of institutions and policy frameworks responsible for environmental management and cross-sector governance, including water, mining, agriculture, forestry, energy, and wildlife sectors in Zambia.
