NTU International is pleased to draw attention to a recent event, which took place in Brussels on 14-15 December 2023: CERIS annual event 2023 – Fighting Crime and Terrorism/Resilient Infrastructure.
Organised by the DG HOME a two-days annual event was dedicated to assessing the current system of radicalisation and extremism data collection and application for research projects in the field. The forum gave a floor to relevant stakeholders, such as research practitioners, policy makers, and representatives of civil society.
Overall objective of that meeting was to better understand research approach and methodology for better understanding of such phenomena as crimes and terrorism, creation of resilient infrastructure. The first part of discussions dealt with access to the necessary research data, its quality and quantity. NTU believes that data-tailored and scientifically justified decision-making process in the policy of prevention of radicalisation is a key element to sustainable socio-political development, and achievement of DG home and migration policies’ goals in the field of security. Among other issues connected with data, an approach of collaboration between research data and project data for the synergy of these databases and creation of a comprehensive picture of radicalisation tendencies was discussed.
Second part of sessions was related to stakeholders’ mapping for radicalisation research projects, namely possible benefits and outputs from involvement of NGOs and CSOs in security research consortia, possible obstacles to the use of their potential in contributing to research and communication of research results to civil society.
NTU remains committed to supporting the EU and the EU member states in the management of migration tendencies caused by the unrest in many nearby countries. The Nordic countries are renowned for being proactive in combatting extremism. We aim to bring the best lessons of this expertise and approaches to the other EU members, neighbouring partners and other developing countries fighting Crime and Terrorism.
