Since Egypt relies heavily on the Nile, struggling with a major water scarcity crisis is considered a real threat. Because of this, there is an urgent need for modernisation of the country’s water management system. Improved water usage is crucial to face the challenge, starting on a policy level.
This is why the Water Partnership Joint Declaration was launched, with the aim of establishing a sustainable water management policy in Egypt. This Assignment provides support to the implementation of the objectives outlined in the Declaration, such as facilitating high-level stakeholder meetings, enhancing policy dialogue, promoting innovative water technologies and ensuring the effective implementation of water resource management initiatives.
Implementation
NTU initiates the implementation by engaging with high-level officials in the sector and facilitating their policy dialogue with the EU Delegation, as well as a number of other national and international stakeholders. They include the UN, the African Union and the Arab Water Council. These collaborative efforts are instrumental in defining the scope and priorities of technical cooperation and capacity-building initiatives targeted at local water management engineers and policymakers.
Additionally, NTU’s engagement enhances the private sector involvement, particularly in the mobilisation of investments within the water management sector. Lastly, NTU overviews the project implementation, ensuring effective governance and communication to support water sector initiatives.
Impact
- Strengthened policy framework around water management and climate change;
- Creating an optimal environment for private sector investments in the modernisation of water technologies, paving road for climate-resilient water infrastructure and agriculture;
