What does a circular economy mean for Ukraine’s future?

This week in Lviv, more than 30 voices from government, business, academia, and civil society – such as representatives of NGO Plato, Ukrainian Climate Network and Zero Waste Alliance Ukraine - came together to shape the answer.

The consultation on Ukraine’s Circular Economy Development Strategy until 2035 — supported by the European Union and led by the Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine — was not just about policies and reports. It was about vision:

  • Turning organic waste into resources
  • Building smarter forestry practices
  • Expanding renewable energy
  • Driving innovation in agro-industry

The discussions were honest. From closing legislative gaps to financing new solutions, participants explored both the opportunities and the hurdles. And that’s exactly what makes this process powerful — it’s not theory, it’s collaboration. Proud that the NTU team, the experts Liubov Zharova, Yuliia Melnyk and Lviv Regional Military Administration could help bring these conversations to life. Only by connecting people, regions, and expertise can Ukraine’s green transition succeed — and bring us closer to a sustainable future in line with the EU’s vision.

Ukraine’s circular economy journey has begun. It starts with dialogue, courage, and shared responsibility.
