Technical Assistance for Nigeria Solar for Health Project (NISHP)
 | Driving Sustainable Healthcare Access

In the past month, the TA for Nigeria Solar for Health Project (NISHP) financed by the Delegation of the European Union to Nigeria and ECOWAS and implemented by NTU International A/S, continued making significant strides towards improving primary healthcare services through sustainable energy solutions. The NTU team of experts delivered two additional Energy Audits and Baseline data collection trainings in:

  • Abia State (March 25-26, 2025): up to 50 selected members from the Abia State Ministry of Power and the State Primary Healthcare Board attended the trainings.
  • Ogun State (April 8-9, 2025): Approx. 70 participants from the Ministries of Power and Primary Healthcare were trained in data collection methodologies in preparation for collecting energy and health data across 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs).

In addition, following the cabinet re-shuffle in the Akwa Ibom State, the NTU team of experts welcomed Hon. Robson Iniobong, the new Commissioner for Power in the State, who will lead the Healthcare Electrification efforts under the NISHP project in Akwa Ibom. Following his inauguration, the Commissioner was briefed on the project objectives and ongoing training initiatives delivered to the state's team to collect the energy audit and baseline data, with focus on data for PUE systems.

In the upcoming weeks, the NTU team:

  • Has been invited by the EU Delegation to participate in the EU High-level mission to Kano State (slated for May 28-29, 2025) - The TA team is expected to visit the legacy EU-funded Solar for Health sites: PHC Dandinshe, Government Girls College Kano, and L&Z Dairy Farms – all with solar PV installations funded by the EU in previous versions of the solar for health project. The aim is to see the level of operations and maintenance carried out and learn from experiences to sustain these projects.
  • Will host a developers' roundtable on June 3, 2025, where intending developers wishing to participate in the NISHP project will be briefed on eligibility requirements.
  • Will organise the 2nd Federal Project Steering Committee meeting, bringing together key representatives from all 5 NISHP states, federal-level steering committee members and partners to present the project progress and achievements. The event will take place on June 10, 2025.

These initiatives continue to underscore the transformative potential of sustainable energy in strengthening healthcare systems.

NTU is grateful for the support of EU and other stakeholders in making this vision a reality.
