European Remembrance Day for Victims of Terrorism
For the EU Knowledge Hub on Prevention of Radicalisation, NTU International supported the annual EU Remembrance Day for Victims of Terrorism. This year's event took place in Strasbourg.
As the Consortium leader for the EU Knowledge Hub on the Prevention of Radicalisation, NTU played a key role in organising the 21st European Remembrance Day for Victims of Terrorism on 11 March 2025 in Strasbourg, France. In collaboration with the European Commission – DG Home, the Presidency of the French Republic and the City of Strasbourg, NTU Consortium ensured the event’s successful execution.
The event featured an opening speech by European Commissioner Magnus Brunner and simultaneous translation into five languages (French, English, Spanish, German, and Italian). It also saw the participation of French President Emmanuel Macron and European Parliament President Roberta Metsola, underscoring its significance at both national and European levels. During the central part of the event, European victims of terrorism delivered testimonies of their experience to honour the memory of their lost relatives and support each other.
As a symbol of solidarity and hope, a tree ceremony brought together victims, their families, and European leaders in a moment of quiet reflection. A minute of silence reminded us of our collective responsibility: to remember, to stand with those affected, and to work towards a future where such tragedies no longer occur.
This solemn occasion serves as a tribute to victims and survivors of terrorism across Europe and beyond. Remembrance Day is an expression of solidarity, resilience, and unity. It provides a platform for survivors to share their experiences, ensuring that their voices remain at the heart of efforts to prevent radicalisation and combat violent extremism.
