New climate shortlist for NTU
NTU has been shortlisted for the project EU Support for Climate Action in IPA П beneficiaries - Transition towards the low emissions and climate-resilient economy in the Western Balkans and Turkey.

IPA beneficiary countries
Since 2014, the IPA beneficiary countries have mobilised significant resources to develop and adopt their Intended Nationally Determined Contributions to the 2015 Paris Agreement under the United Nations Framework Convention for Climate Change. The IPA beneficiaries are particularly vulnerable to climate change, as this region continues to get warmer still. At the same time, the region is receiving less rain and is projected to experience even further decreases in the future. The effect of warmer temperatures on evaporation, together with the decline in rainfall, will make the region drier. In the 2014 World Bank Report, 'Turn Down the heat', the region was identified as a climate hot spot, where temperature increase will be higher than the average and will lead to even more frequent and heavier floods, droughts and other extreme events. In the recent years, floods, violent storms and droughts have hit many of the countries in the region, including Bosnia Herzegovina, Serbia and the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia. The lack of proper climate change policy framework in most of the countries can affect the region’s ability to respond effectively to climate change impacts. Therefore, it is urgently important for the IPA beneficiaries to implement proper climate change commitments. To do so, they will need sufficient administrative, institutional and financial capacity to carry out required reforms in the relevant sectors. This EU-funded project will help further improve their ability to adapt to climate changes by;

• Support the Beneficiaries to build their capacity for the implementation of the 2015 Paris Agreement and for the development of low emissions and climate resilient economies
• Enhance the regional exchange of information, best practices, peer-to-peer reviews, experience and awareness-raising between the IPA II beneficiaries and between IPA II beneficiaries and the Member States towards the implementation of Beneficiaries' commitments under the Paris Agreement.
